The automotive world is struggling to hold in the pulsing energy of excitement it’s been injected with through the reveal of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. The new design of the vehicle alone threatens to decimate the entire vehicular hive mind, leaving a smoking crater with only the upcoming Tucson sitting solitary in the center behind.

One intriguing aspect of the redesigned Tucson are the engines that power it. What engines and power options lie under the hood of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson?

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson will be offered as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and conventional 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas machine.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. Hyundai says these powerplants will each result in a combined 230 horsepower. The automaker has not yet released details on battery capacity or driving range.

The conventional 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas-powered engine in suspected to be the same one that’s currently found under the hood of the Sonata sedan. It’s expected to be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and offered with either front- or all-wheel drive.

A Tucson N-Line variation will also be available as a sportier alternative for those who want more power. This incarnation may utilize the 290-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the upcoming Sonata N-Line.

That’s all we know for now. Expect more to be revealed about engines and performance closer to the release date of the vehicle!
