How does the Hyundai hands-free auto liftgate work?

Hyundai Hands-Free Auto Liftgate FAQs and Guide

One sweet feature of the latest Hyundai models is the hands-free auto liftgate. Having debuted in 2015, this gizmo ups the convenience of other automatically-opening hatches by not requiring the user to actually do anything besides stand there.

Unlike other brands that make users awkwardly wave one their feet underneath or even (gasp) press a physical button, the hands-free auto liftgate from Hyundai simply senses when the vehicle’s key is in its vicinity for three seconds and then opens automatically.

But as with any new technology, users have a lot of questions. Read on below for some answers to common ones regarding the Hyundai hands-free auto liftgate. Continue reading

Is the 2020 Hyundai Sonata AWD?

All-Wheel Drive Capability of the 2020 Sonata

While the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is not an SUV, many consumers find themselves wondering if it can be had with power in all four of its wheels. After all, other midsize sedans like the Subaru Legacy and Nissan Altima do feature the option of all-wheel drive. Does the 2020 Hyundai Sonata have AWD?

View Our New Hyundai Sonata Inventory

No, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata does not offer all-wheel drive. Instead, it comes with front-wheel drive on every trim level. That being said, this vehicle is still quite a performer; it can produce up to 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque with its standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Stepping up to the optional 1.6-liter four-cylinder drops that hp to 180 but raises the torque to 195 pound-feet.

Overall, though, the 2020 Sonata focuses on comfort over athleticism. The model has been fully redesigned and now features one of the nicest interiors in the class. It embodies the sultry “Sensuous Sportiness” design philosophy that Hyundai is now implementing across its brand.

Pre-Release Whispers of Sonata AWD

Before the 2020 Hyundai Sonata was released, there were rumors that the all-new model would have all-wheel drive. Jae Young Kim, the Hyundai director of product division, was asked about the possibility of an AWD Sonata in the U.S. His response?

“Yes… we are currently reviewing the need for all-wheel drive in [the US] market.”

For better or worse, the need must not have been determined to be great enough this time around.

Is all-wheel drive helpful for daily driving?

American drivers tend to value AWD because of a common perception that it is good for tackling variable road and weather conditions. While this is true, the feature is often not as useful as imagined. Snow tires, for example, are much more effective in slippery winter conditions than all-wheel drive.

All-wheel drive is handy for off-roading. However, off-roading is best done in an SUV or crossover with a high ride height. Not all consumers are into such high-flyers, which is why there continues to be such an enduring demand for midsize cars like the 2020 Hyundai Sonata.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Tucson good in snow?

2020 Hyundai Tucson Winter Driving

Winters here on the Delmarva Peninsula tend to be, well, unforgiving. One way to lessen the pain of the brutal snow months is by having a vehicle that can handle such conditions with ease.

Many of our customers admire the 2020 Hyundai Tucson for its capabilities as a compact SUV. But the question remains: is the 2020 Hyundai Tucson good in snow?

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson is good in snow thanks to its high-level safety features, cutting-edge technology, all-wheel drive availability and strong warranty coverage. In fact, Hyundai provides its vehicles with America’s Best Warranty.

Safety

Winter months are the most dangerous time of year for driving. That’s why having the latest and greatest in safety tech is a smart way to prepare for the snow. The 2019 Tucson was an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ (when properly equipped) and proud recipient of an NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. The 2020 Tucson has a lot to live up to, but so far, it’s doing a great job; it also received an NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety Rating.

Cutting-Edge Technology

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson boasts an array of modern tech to best help you stay safe and take on the cold. Before you even get inside, the engine can be started by using the remote start feature (with climate control) through the Hyundai Blue Link Connected Car Service App. This ensures your vehicle will be all warmed up for you when you get in.

Other tech overlaps into the realm of safety. An available surround view monitor gives you a full top-down, 360-degree view of your vehicle when backing up. The back-up cam, meanwhile, shows what’s directly behind you while providing helpful parking guidelines.

No one wants to get lost in a blizzard. Thankfully, the 2020 Hyundai Tucson offers an available 8-inch navigation system to keep you on the right track. An available second row USB power outlet allows everyone to keep their devices fully charged in case they need to be utilized.

All-Wheel Drive Availability

All-wheel drive is available on every trim of the 2020 Hyundai Tucson. Though AWD has been oversold in the past as an all-encompassing solution to snow driving, it certainly can help drivers to get traction and prevent them from getting stuck. However, do note that snow tires have been shown to be far more helpful in winter driving, and we recommend them no matter what vehicle you drive.
